Reverse description A schematic architectural facade, representing a temple or church elevation, depicted frontally at the center of the flan within a beaded circle. The structure features a prominent arched gateway or doorway, with a star or cross finial above the roofline, rendered in the stylized manner common to Ottonian papal coinage of Rome. A circular Latin legend naming the emperor surrounds the entire design, reading from the cross stop. The overall execution is typical of late tenth-century hammered deniers struck at Rome in the joint name of pope and emperor.
