| Beschrijving voorzijde | Frontal crowned bust of the king rendered in primitive hammered relief, wearing a crown with fleur-de-lis finials. The monarch holds a bird (likely a falcon) in the right hand and a scepter in the left. The figure is depicted in a stylized, flat manner characteristic of mid-13th century Hungarian bracteate-influenced coinage, with no surrounding legend. The irregular flan and shallow relief are typical of this issue. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Béla IV's reign was defined almost entirely by catastrophe and reconstruction. The Mongol invasion of 1241–42 devastated the Hungarian kingdom so thoroughly that Béla spent decades afterward rebuilding towns, granting urban charters, and encouraging German settlers to repopulate the ruins. Coinage from this period served the practical demands of a reviving economy rather than any ceremonial function, and the thin, bracteate-influenced fabric of these deniers reflects the constrained silver supply that persisted long after the invasion.
The extended 35-year reign means attribution to a specific emission within this type remains difficult without die study.
