Reverse description Within a raised inner circle, a cross with a beaded horizontal bar divides the field into quadrants; the upper two contain stylized letter forms while the lower two bear additional symbols including what appears as a D and L arrangement. Pellets are placed at the extremities of the cross arms and in the angles of the quadrants. The design is contained within a plain raised ring, with the outer field left undecorated, typical of the simplified reverse treatment found on Árpád-dynasty bracteate-influenced deniers. The lettering, partly Cyrillic in character, reflects the cultural milieu of the Hungarian court under Béla III.
