Obverse description Central field dominated by a bold cruciform monogram composed of the letters B, E, L, and A arranged around a central cross motif, spelling the royal name BÉLA. The letters are rendered in a stylized Romanesque manner, with the cross surmounted by a small cross-pattée terminal. Four pellets are placed diagonally in the angles of the design. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded border. The hammered flan exhibits characteristic irregularity of medieval Hungarian coinage.
