Bedřich (Frederick) of Bohemia held the ducal — later royal — title under chronic contestation from rival Přemyslid claimants, and his coinage reflects a minting authority that was frequently interrupted. The Cach 623 denier belongs to a series struck during his second period of rule, after he was reinstated with Hohenstaufen backing from Frederick Barbarossa in 1178.
Přemyslid deniers of this period were struck at Prague and are notable for their thin, broad flans — a Bohemian characteristic that makes fully intact rim-to-rim strikes genuinely uncommon in the series.
