Obverse description Central device depicting a key and chain within a beaded inner circle, rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style characteristic of southern French feudal billon coinage of the late 13th century. The key, symbol of the Viscounty of Narbonne, is shown upright in the field. A circular uncial legend surrounds the inner circle, reading the title and name of Aymeri, Viscount of Narbonne. The overall flan is irregular, as is typical of hammered medieval provincial issues.
