Reverse description Central field dominated by a large capital letter A beneath a horizontal bar, flanked on the left by the letter I and on the right by a retrograde S (Ƨ). These monogrammatic elements are rendered in bold, deeply struck relief characteristic of Metz mint issues of the early Carolingian period. The arrangement is typical of anonymous deniers attributed to the mayoral administration of Charles Martel, with the retrograde legend variant noted as a recognized die variety. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, consistent with hammered silver production of the mid-eighth century.
