Reverse description Central field displays a large cross pattée or wheel cross surrounded by a beaded inner circle, with four smaller crosses arranged in the cardinal positions between the inner and outer borders. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded or dotted outer ring, creating a decorative concentric composition. Additional pellets are visible in the angles between the subsidiary crosses, a motif closely associated with the ecclesiastical mint of Reims during the Merovingian period. The overall execution is bold but irregular, consistent with hammered provincial workshop production.
