| Reverse description | A cross pattée occupies the central field, with the letters S and T alternating in each of the four quarters formed by the arms of the cross, reading S-T-S-T. The entire design is contained within a reeded inner circle, a common decorative border convention on medieval episcopal deniers of the Low Countries. The cross pattée design reflects the ecclesiastical authority of the Bishopric of Tournai and is consistent with Romanesque hammered coinage of the 12th century. |
