Obverse description Stylized facing head in the 'bléso-chartraine' tradition, depicted within a rectangular frame surmounted by a row of pellets or denticles at the top. The portrait, rendered in a highly schematic medieval manner, is flanked on either side by pellets in the field. A recumbent lily (fleur-de-lis lying on its side) appears below the bust, serving as the principal heraldic device of the County of Chartres. The overall design reflects the anonymous feudal coinage style typical of the Capetian period.
