Reverse description A plain Greek cross centered within a beaded inner circle, its arms extending to the circumference of the circle, with the field otherwise plain. The outer legend, reading ✠ CAINONI CASTRO, runs between the beaded inner circle and the irregular coin edge, identifying the Chinon mint as 'Castle of Chinon.' The lettering is in the angular Carolingian script characteristic of feudal ecclesiastical issues of this period.
