| Obverse description | Central cross pattée with splayed, pointed arms occupying the inner field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The circular Latin legend reading ALTISIODOR (the medieval Latin toponym for Auxerre) runs between the beaded circle and the outer toothed rim, preceded by a cross pommée. The coin is struck on an irregular flan characteristic of hammered medieval billon issues, with the die showing the bold, angular lettering typical of late 12th-century French feudal coinage. |
