Obverse description Central cross pattée with six radiating arms occupying the field, struck in high relief characteristic of early medieval hammered coinage. The cross divides the field into quadrants. A circular legend surrounds the central device, reading SCE MARIAE in Latin characters, invoking the Virgin Mary as patron of the diocese of Le Puy. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, typical of tenth-century episcopal billon deniers.

Reverse description A bold cross pattée at center, with slightly splayed arms of even length occupying most of the field, rendered in the crude but vigorous style of Carolingian-influenced episcopal coinage. Small decorative elements appear in the angles of the cross. The surrounding circular legend reads MONETA in Latin, referencing the episcopal mint authority of Le Puy. The flan is irregular in outline with typical hammering irregularities along the edge.
