| Obverse description | At center, an upright episcopal crozier is depicted with its curved volute turned to the left, serving as the principal device of the obverse field. The crozier is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A Latin legend circumscribes the inner circle, reading EPIS.C.OPVS — an abbreviated form of EPISCOPVS, denoting the bishop as issuing authority — introduced by a cross pattée. The hammered flan exhibits the irregular, slightly uneven edge characteristic of mid-thirteenth-century feudal coinage from southern France. |
