| Reverse description | Incuse mirror image of the obverse design, as is characteristic of thin hammered bracteate-style deniers of this period, showing the reverse impression of the cross and surrounding star motifs in intaglio relief. The four-petalled or four-lobed floral rosette visible at the centre is the result of the die-striking process transferring the obverse design through the thin silver flan. The plain, slightly concave field and irregular flan edge are consistent with episcopal coinage of the Upper Rhine region circa 1180-1199. |
