The design is incuse relative to the obverse, as is characteristic of bracteate and thin hammered pfennig coinage of the period. The composition is unlettered and entirely decorative, reflecting the anonymous episcopal coinage traditions of the Bishopric of Basel in the latter half of the 12th century. |
