Reverse description Within a plain inner circle, a stylized eight-petalled rosette or floral motif is prominently displayed in the center of the field, with each petal rendered in crisp, pointed relief. The design is incuse relative to the obverse, as is characteristic of bracteate and thin hammered pfennig coinage of the period. The composition is unlettered and entirely decorative, reflecting the anonymous episcopal coinage traditions of the Bishopric of Basel in the latter half of the 12th century.
