Additional information

Anonymous deniers of this type were struck at a period when ducal authority in Brittany was fragmented between competing counts, and the absence of a named ruler on the coinage was almost certainly deliberate — no single lord could command enough regional dominance to claim the issue outright. The billon content in surviving examples varies noticeably, suggesting output from more than one mint or successive melting and restriking of older stock.
