| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central design displays a plain cross with pellets in the angles, enclosed within a beaded inner circle, a motif common to Rhenish ecclesiastical deniers of the 11th century. The cross divides the inner field into four equal quadrants, each containing a small pellet or annulet. The surrounding legend CONFLVENCIA identifies the mint city of Koblenz (Confluentia), situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. The lettering is in majuscule Latin characters, somewhat irregularly spaced due to the hand-struck nature of the flan. |
