Obverse description Facing bust of Saint Remaculus, patron saint and founding bishop of Stavelot-Malmedy Abbey, rendered in the crude Ottonian-Romanesque style typical of Rhenish ecclesiastical deniers of the late 11th century. The figure is depicted with schematic facial features and simplified drapery lines radiating from the bust, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads SREMACLVS EPS, identifying the saint by name and episcopal title. The flan is irregular and slightly wavy, characteristic of hand-hammered medieval coinage. The relief is low and the strike uneven, with portions of the legend occasionally weak or partially off-flan.
