Denier anonyme Gittelde

Gittelde was an imperial palace site — a Pfalz — where Henry III held court on multiple occasions in the mid-eleventh century, and the mining rights in the surrounding Harz region were fiercely contested between the archbishopric and the Salian crown throughout this period. That the Magdeburg archbishops were striking anonymous deniers there at all reflects a privilege still being actively negotiated rather than one firmly settled.
