Andrew II's reign was defined less by monetary policy than by the chronic fiscal catastrophe of his crusading ambitions and baronial giveaways — his so-called "new institutions" redistributed crown lands so aggressively that subsequent Hungarian kings spent generations trying to claw back what he squandered. Coinage from this reign reflects that instability: output was inconsistent, and the silver content of deniers issued across the thirty-year span shows measurable variation as royal revenues fluctuated.
The 1222 Golden Bull, extorted from Andrew by his own nobility, is the dominant political fact of this reign — Hungary's answer to Magna Carta, signed just seven years later.
