正面描述 Central field features a plain cross pattée with a small annulet or pellet at its centre, dividing the flan into four quarters. The cross extends nearly to the inner beaded circle that borders the design. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central motif, reading + ALFVNSVS COMES, identifying the issuing count. The lettering is rendered in the characteristic Gothic script of 13th-century French feudal coinage, somewhat irregularly struck due to the hammered technique. The overall style is typical of the feudal deniers produced under Alphonse of Poitiers as Count of Auvergne.

附加信息

Alphonse of Poitiers — younger brother of Louis IX — acquired Auvergne through his 1241 marriage to Jeanne of Toulouse and governed it alongside Poitiers, Toulouse, and other territories in an unusually consolidated southern apanage. His coinage authority across multiple counties created administrative complexity, and the Auvergnat deniers of this period reflect a local mint tradition being slowly subordinated to Capetian monetary policy. When Alphonse died without heirs in 1271, all his territories reverted directly to the French crown — ending this series permanently.
