Additional information

Adalrich II served as Bishop of Basel from around 1025 to 1040, a period when the Salian dynasty was consolidating its grip on the German church through aggressive appointment of loyal ecclesiastics. The right to strike coin was a jealously guarded episcopal privilege in this region, and Basel's position on the Rhine made its mint commercially significant well beyond local use.

HMZ 1#190b is among the scarcer documented varieties of this reign.
