The lettering is bold and deeply struck in the archaic Cyrillic script of early 15th-century Rus, with individual characters rendered in a monumental display style characteristic of princely seal coinage. A secondary Cyrillic legend runs around the outer periphery of the flan, partially lost to the irregular edge of the hammered blank. Following the extinction of the Suzdal-Nizhny Novgorod ruling line with the death of Daniil Borisovich around 1415, Moscow absorbed the principality outright — but for a brief transitional window, coinage was struck acknowledging the overlapping jurisdictional claims of both Vasily I and the remnant Suzdal dynasty. This denga belongs to that uneasy interregnum, produced under Muscovite authority while nominally referencing the older princely house, a numismatic artifact of political absorption rather than independent rule.
