Vasily I spent much of his reign navigating the collapse of Mongol authority following Tamerlane's defeat of Tokhtamysh at the Battle of the Kondurcha River in 1391. Moscow's coinage in this period reflects that instability directly — early issues carried Tatar tamgas on the reverse as a form of political deference, but by the 1410s those symbols were disappearing, replaced by Cyrillic legends and native imagery. This denga sits within that transitional window.
The HP II#1550 D/E designation places it among a closely related die group distinguished by subtle legend variations that Hriciuk and Petrunin used to establish relative sequencing within Vasily's long series.
