| Obverse description | Cyrillic legend arranged across the field in multiple lines, reading the titulature of Grand Prince Vasily. The inscription is interspersed with pellets serving as decorative dividers. The lettering is characteristic of early 15th-century Muscovite wire money production, with irregular hand-punched characters typical of hammered coinage of the period. |

Vasily I spent much of his reign navigating the collapse of Mongol authority following Timur's destruction of the Golden Horde's power base at the Battle of the Vorskla River in 1399. Moscow's coinage from this period reflects that uncertainty — issues were irregular, dies were cut by hand with no standardization, and the same prince might produce a dozen distinct legend variants within a single decade. HP II#1551 falls within a narrow four-year window when the principality was also absorbing Nizhny Novgorod, acquired by Vasily through a Horde patent in 1392 and consolidated by force shortly after.
