| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field bearing a stylized Arabic-influenced inscription arranged in a circular pattern within a beaded inner circle, characteristic of late 14th-century Russian principality coinage that imitated Tatar monetary designs. Surrounding the central motif is a border of Cyrillic or pseudo-Cyrillic lettering running along the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan. The design reflects the hybrid Russo-Tatar artistic tradition prevalent in the Nizhny Novgorod-Suzdal principality during the reign of Vasily Dmitrievich. The overall relief is low and the strike is typical of hand-hammered workshop production of the period. |

Vasily Dmitrievich ruled Nizhny Novgorod during one of the most politically unstable periods in northeastern Rus, when the principality was being steadily absorbed into the expanding Muscovite orbit. His coinage reflects this tension — the denga issues of the late 14th century frequently show strong Tatar tamgha influence on the design, a direct consequence of Golden Horde suzerainty and the practical need to produce currency acceptable to both Russian and Mongol commercial networks. The principality was formally annexed by Moscow in 1392, making this a terminal issue for an independent Nizhny Novgorod mint.
