Obverse description Equestrian figure of the Grand Prince depicted in profile, riding a galloping horse to the right, the rider brandishing a raised sword in his right hand. The Cyrillic letter ω appears below the horse in the field, serving as a Novgorod mint identifier. A partial circular Cyrillic legend surrounds the central device, reading the titles of Grand Duke Vasiliy Ivanovich. The flan is irregular and the die-struck relief is characteristically shallow, consistent with early 16th-century Russian wire-money hammered coinage.
