Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a stylized human figure is depicted in profile, possibly a seated or crouching warrior or prince, rendered in the crude but vigorous manner typical of early Russian wire money coinage. The design is set against a flat, unadorned field characteristic of hammered medieval Russian dengas. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of the wire-cut planchets used for this series.
