Obverse description Equestrian figure of a warrior, depicted in profile facing right, mounted on a galloping horse with tail raised. The rider raises a curved sabre aloft in his right hand in a striking posture, wearing armour rendered in low relief. The flan, typical of wire-cut hammered coinage, is irregular and oval in shape, with the design unevenly distributed across the field.

Reverse description A three-line Cyrillic inscription occupies the central field, preceded above by a tilde-like decorative element separating the legend from the upper field. The inscription reads КНSЬ ВЕЛIКI IВАН, translating as 'Grand Duke Ivan', identifying the issuing ruler as Ivan IV. The lettering is rendered in a characteristic medieval Muscovite style, unevenly struck across the irregular wire-cut flan, with weak areas at the periphery consistent with the hammered production technique.
