Additional information

Ivan IV assumed the throne as Grand Prince at age three in 1533, leaving his mother Elena Glinskaya as regent. The monetary reform of 1535 — enacted under her regency — standardized Russian coinage by abolishing the clipped and fraudulent wire money that had proliferated across competing principalities, replacing it with uniform weight standards enforced across Moscow, Novgorod, and Tver. This denga belongs to that reform period, before Ivan's formal coronation as Tsar in 1547 fundamentally reordered the political identity of the issuing authority.
