Obverse description A mounted horseman in profile to right, depicted on a galloping horse, brandishing a raised sabre. The figure is rendered in the characteristic flat, linear style of medieval Russian wire money. The mint mark letter 'M' appears beneath the hooves of the horse, identifying the Moscow Mint. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of the wire-cut (chekanka) production method of the period.
