Additional information

The denga was resurrected under Catherine II as part of her 1763 monetary reform, which rationalized the chaotic copper coinage inherited from her predecessors by fixing copper's exchange rate at 16 rubles per pood. Production was distributed across several mints simultaneously — Ekaterinburg, Sestroretsk, Kolomna, and Moscow among them — which is why die varieties and mint mark combinations for this type run into the dozens.
