The overall design reflects the common Rus' practice of imitating Jochid coinage during the late 14th century. The irregular flan exhibits a dotted border around the periphery. The engraving is crude and characteristic of hammered provincial Rus' silver coinage of this period. |

Starodub was a minor appanage principality in northeastern Rus', and Alexander Patrikeyevich's tenure was brief even by the fractured standards of post-Mongol succession politics. The denga type assigned to his reign spans no more than two years — a window narrow enough that surviving examples are genuinely scarce rather than merely undervalued.
