Obverse description Central device depicts a stylized architectural facade with a domed or crenellated structure, likely representing the basilica or gate of Aquileia, flanked by two tower-like elements. The composition is rendered in the bold, simplified Romanesque style typical of northern Italian hammered coinage of the early thirteenth century. A dotted inner circle frames the central device, with the circular Latin legend ✠ CIVITAS · AQVILЄGIA running between the inner and outer beaded borders. The flat, irregular flan shows characteristic hammer-struck weakness at the edges.
