Obverse description Central field features a large gothic letter M enclosed within a raised inner circle, flanked on either side by a large pellet. The M is rendered in the characteristic Hohenstaufen gothic style. The surrounding legend runs between the inner circle and the coin's irregular outer edge, separated by pellets and a cross. The overall design is characteristic of the Sicilian denaro coinage of Manfred's reign.
