Obverse description A short cross pattée is depicted at the centre of a raised inner circle, with a six-pointed star occupying each of the first and second quarters of the cross. The surrounding field between the inner circle and the coin's edge carries the circular Latin legend. The flan is irregular, typical of hand-struck medieval billon coinage, and the die work is bold if somewhat roughly executed.

Reverse description The reverse repeats the same central device as the obverse: a short cross pattée enclosed within a raised inner circle, with six-pointed stars placed in the first and second quarters of the cross. The outer legend, separated from the inner circle by the field, reads CIVITAS, identifying the communal civic authority of the issuer. The engraving is characteristic of early fourteenth-century northern Italian hammered coinage, with bold, somewhat irregular lettering.
