Obverse lettering A VITELLIVS IMP GERMAN
(Translation: Aulus Vitellius Imperator Germanicus — Aulus Vitellius, supreme commander and conqueror of the Germans.)
Reverse description The winged goddess Victoria is depicted striding left in the field, her robes billowing behind her in dynamic motion. She holds a wreath extended in her right hand and rests her left hand upon a large globus (orb) positioned to the lower left, symbolising dominion over the world. The figure is rendered in high relief with outstretched wings and delicate drapery typical of Flavian-era die engraving. The encircling legend VICTORIA AVGVSTI arcs around the upper field, proclaiming the victory of the emperor.
