Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Vitellius facing right, rendered with characteristic fleshy features and short beard, the laurel wreath finely detailed against wavy hair. A globe appears at the point of the neck, symbolising imperial dominion over the world, while a palm branch is depicted in the field before the face. The portrait is encircled by a beaded border, with the Latin legend distributed around the periphery. The die-cutting reflects the hurried but competent workshop production typical of the tumultuous Year of the Four Emperors.
