| Obverse description | Bare head of Vitellius facing right, rendered in a naturalistic style typical of early Flavian-era portraiture. The emperor is depicted with characteristic heavy jowls, short hair rendered in low relief, and a thick neck, conveying his well-documented corpulent physique. The laureate legend encircles the bust from lower left to upper right across the field. The flan is slightly irregular in shape, consistent with hand-struck Roman imperial coinage of AD 69. |
