The throne is depicted as a simple curule-style seat, and the god's feet rest on a low footstool. The legend IVPPITER VICTOR is distributed in the field to left and right of the enthroned deity, proclaiming Jupiter as the Victorious, a divine proclamation well suited to Vitellius's claim to imperial authority during the tumultuous civil war of AD 69. |
