背面描述 Winged Victory personified stands to the right atop the prow of a warship (rostrum), her wings spread and her drapery billowing. She extends a laurel wreath in her raised right hand and holds a palm branch in her left. The legend VESP AVG is divided across the field, flanking the figure. The design celebrates Vespasian's military victories and is executed in the fine engraving style characteristic of the Rome mint under the Flavian dynasty.

附加信息

Vespasian struck heavily propagandistic coinage in the years immediately following the Jewish War, and this 74 AD issue falls squarely within that sustained campaign. The conquest of Judaea — and the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD — was the military achievement Vespasian and Titus used to legitimize the new Flavian dynasty, a family with no Julian bloodline and a pressing need to manufacture prestige. The IVDAEA CAPTA series had already been running for several years by this point; Victory types continued that messaging in a less explicit but politically continuous vein.
