Issued in 70 AD, this denarius belongs to a brief series celebrating Vespasian's sons as his acknowledged heirs — minted in the immediate aftermath of the Year of the Four Emperors, when dynastic legitimacy was precisely what the new Flavian regime needed to advertise. Vespasian was still in the East finalizing the Judaean campaign when these coins entered circulation; he would not arrive in Rome until late 70 AD.
RIC II.1 1418 is among the rarer issues of the early Flavian coinage, struck before the mint operation fully stabilized under the new administration.
