Obverse description Laureate head of Vespasian facing right, rendered in the naturalistic portraiture style characteristic of early Flavian imperial coinage. The emperor's features are boldly modelled, with a broad, fleshy face and close-cropped hair beneath the laurel wreath. The encircling legend reads IMP CAES VESPAS AVG in Latin capitals, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The die work is competent though the striking is slightly off-centre, as typical of hammered silver of this period. The flan is irregular and shows natural surface patination consistent with a coin of this age.
