Obverse description Laureate head of Vespasian facing right, rendered in the characteristically austere and realistic portrait style of early Flavian coinage. The emperor's mature, strong-featured effigy displays a laurel wreath crowning his head, with short hair and a clean-shaven face. The truncation of the bust is visible at the lower edge of the flan. The Latin legend IMP CAES VESPAS AVG runs around the periphery, partially visible on the irregularly shaped flan. The die work reflects the high-quality engraving characteristic of the Rome Mint during the first year of Vespasian's reign.
