Obverse description Helmeted head of Roma facing right, rendered in fine Republican style, with a star placed below the chin serving as the control mark. The monogram VAR, formed by the ligate combination of the letters, appears in the right field as the moneyer's abbreviated signature. A border of dots frames the entire design. The portrait exhibits the characteristic strong-featured, martial effigy of Roma standard to mid-Republican silver coinage.
