| Obverse description | Draped bust of Diva Marciana facing right, her hair elaborately dressed in the Trajanic fashion with a series of vertical ridges and waves swept upward and back, characteristic of the period's court portraiture. The effigy is rendered with refined detail, the drapery visible at the shoulder and chest. The encircling Latin legend reads DIVA AVGVSTA MARCIANA, identifying the deceased and deified sister of Trajan, elevated to the rank of Augusta. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hand-struck Roman silver coinage of the early second century AD. |
