| Beschrijving keerzijde | The goddess Victory personified, nude to the hips, stands facing right with her left foot resting on a captured enemy helmet, symbolising Roman triumph over Dacia. With her extended right hand she inscribes the word DACICA upon a large oval shield propped upright on a palm branch, the palm itself serving as a trophy of conquest. Her left arm supports the shield from behind, and her wings are spread or partially furled in a dynamic composition emphasising martial glory. The reverse legend encircling the field dedicates the coin from the Senate and Roman People to Trajan as Optimus Princeps. The scene is a clear allusion to Trajan's victorious Dacian campaigns. |
