| Obverse description | Laureate draped bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, rendered in high relief with characteristic strong portraiture of the Trajanic period. The emperor wears a laurel wreath and paludamentum, the military cloak fastened at the right shoulder, visible at the bust truncation. The surrounding circular legend reads IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, commencing at the lower left and running clockwise around the entire periphery of the flan. The die engraving is bold and confident, consistent with the finest output of the Rome Mint workshops during Trajan's later reign. |
